A good book to get to help prepare for the Pharmacy Technician Exam is Pharmacy Technician Certification Review And Practice Exam by Linda Fred. You can get it at Amazon for about $50.00 new or as low as $25.00 used.
You can be prepared for the exam in as little as three months through self-study. The National Pharmacy Technician exam is held 4 times a year. You don’t need to graduate from a Pharmacy Technician school or have a degree to take the exam. All you need is a high school diploma or GED.
Here are a link that should be helpful:
- Pharmacy Technician Certification Board - you can register to take the exam here, get dates and locations of when and where the exam is held, and even take a practice exam here.
You can also go to a technical school to prepare for the exam. I would not recommend going this route. For what they pay pharmacy technicians, it is not worth spending thousands of dollars at a trade school. I would recommend either finding an employer that offers classes at little or no charge, or just studying on your own like I did. Or you can find other pharmacy technicians who are either already certified, or preparing for the exam at the same time as you if you prefer studying in groups.
The exam is not easy, but if you prepare for it well, you should be fine. Good luck to you!
